Mid-term C.M.E 2014, Jabalpur

Report of the Mid-term C.M.E, Jabalpur 27 April 2014

Greetings from the desk of the Scientific Committee, Chairperson.

It is my proud privilege to report a very successful Mid Term CME 2014 Basics and Beyond – Paediatric Cataract , organised at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College, Jabalpur under the ageis of Jabalpur Divisional Ophthalmic Society on 27th April 2014.

CME was about generic basics as well as latest methods of Paediatric Cataract management. There were four sessions and live surgical demonstration of Cataract in the Paediatric age group. It was for the first time in the history of MPSOS that a live surgical demonstration of Paediatric Cataract under general anaesthesia was locally telecast.

The first session was on Paediatric Cataract Initiative which included pre-operative evaluation. Second session was on Preferred Practice Pattern, which was debate and included surgical controversies and various available surgical options followed by a session on Different Strokes to Operative and Post-Op Management. The final session titled Unique Challenges included videos of surgical management of difficult Paediatric Cataract cases.

Total three live surgeries of different types were shown by Dr Jitendra Jethani, Dr Pradhnya Sen and Dr Shailendra Singh Rajput. Their excellent demonstration won many compliments from everyone.

Noteworthy, is the high quality audio-visual system and the time management between the cases was maintained precisely. A total of 22 lectures were convened by various speakers from different parts of MP. Their presentations were to the point, within the time limit and well appreciated. More than 100 delegates actively participated in this CME.

I must place on record that the constant guidance and co-operation by Prof P C Dwivedi, President MPSOS and Dr Mahesh Somani, Secretary MPSOS made this CME a technical success. The united support of the local organising team and timely and invaluable suggestions of senior members of MPSOS and our Executive Members has been a key factor in framing this event. I am especially grateful to the Scientific Committee members – Dr Navneet Saxena, Dr Rachna Gupta and Dr Alok Sen, in designing the sessions with me to cover all the aspects of Paediatric Cataract.

Under the able guidance of Dr S C Batalia and Dr Atul Mishra, Local Organising Chairperson Dr Navneet Saxena, Organising Secretary, Dr Pervez Siddiqui, President JDOS, Dr Atul Sharma, Secretary JDOS, Dr Vinay Chattani and Treasurer Dr Surendra Agrawal worked very hard to make this CME successful. Planning and execution exhibited by the local body was noteworthy. I shall be failing if I do not commend the hospitality including accommodation, food, audio visual system and arrangements at the CME hall which were commendable – having organised each and every aspect meticulously with clockwork precision. That’s how a team work is undertaken ! Kudos Team Jabalpur.

As I look back, I am immensely fortunate to have had such talented colleagues helping me at every juncture – all with the singular aim – to promote scientific activities and raising their standards for future CMEs.

Hoping for a even greater participation in the Annual Conference in October.

Hope to see you at Sagar for the Annual Conference of MPSOS 2014.

Yours sincerely

Dr Shreya Thatte
